Daily Rider Reopens in Apollo Building

The Daily Rider bike shop reopened last week in the Apollo apartment building at 600 H Street NE. They were previously a few blocks down at 1108 H (now a spin studio). Daily Rider has a stylish selection of city bikes, some sportier bikes, accessories, and a repair section. The hours are weekdays 10 AM - 7 PM, Saturdays 10-6 and Sundays 12-6.

Sephora will occupy a first floor space across the street from Zara, H&M, and Madame Tussauds. Signage is up for a Penn Quarter iteration of Sephora, the Paris-based beauty and cosmetics store. Sephora has many locations in the U.S., but currently just one in DC -- in Georgetown. The Penn Quarter store will occupy 1,000 square feet in a corner retail space at 1000 F Street NW , a recently renovated office and retail structure from Douglas Development. I can't say when exactly Sephora will open, but based on the eye test, likely sometime this summer or early fall. Eventually it will be joined at 1000 F by GRK Fresh Greek, a fast casual Mediterranean restaurant.  In nearby City Center, Tesla looks close to opening a showroom and salesroom in another prime corner retail spot. A Langston for Langston, But Not That One

Carver Langston has a new mural! The narrative features an abstract sort of geometric nature theme, switches to a sunglasses-decked woman representing Northeast DC, transitions to a male historical figure, then to a montage of pencils, an image of hands on a typewriter, then finally returning to the geometric nature theme to cap it all off. It's lovely, bold, colorful, and we deserve more murals like this in Carver Langston. But there's just one thing about this one... As you may know, on paper, Carver Langston is really two neighborhoods. Carver is the triangular shaped part of the neighborhood north of Maryland Ave NE, going up to the Arboretum. Langston is the part of the neighborhood south of Maryland, going down to Benning Road. Carver's namesake is a person most of us learned about in elementary school, George Washington Carver . Big Changes Conceptualized for Hechinger Mall, Carver Langston

Suburban style Hechinger Mall sits on a hill between Maryland Ave and Benning Rd NE. Concept developed by H Street Main Street. Maryland Ave NE is center, Benning RD is one the right. Late last week Bizsow reported on a new concept in for the Hechinger Mall area in the form of a pitch by city the business development program  H Street Main Street to the owners of the mall property. Important to consider: this is just a concept -- not a rendering of a planned building or anything binding. However, it is a harbinger for the future of the Starburst intersection, Benning Road NE, and H Street NE. But, wow is it a departure.
