Carver Langston has a new mural! The narrative features an abstract sort of geometric nature theme, switches to a sunglasses-decked woman representing Northeast DC, transitions to a male historical figure, then to a montage of pencils, an image of hands on a typewriter, then finally returning to the geometric nature theme to cap it all off. It's lovely, bold, colorful, and we deserve more murals like this in Carver Langston. But there's just one thing about this one... As you may know, on paper, Carver Langston is really two neighborhoods. Carver is the triangular shaped part of the neighborhood north of Maryland Ave NE, going up to the Arboretum. Langston is the part of the neighborhood south of Maryland, going down to Benning Road. Carver's namesake is a person most of us learned about in elementary school, George Washington Carver . If you live in Ward 5 (and Ward 7, too), you can enjoy free admission to the National Building Museum's Hive installation  tomorrow morning, August 8. Standard admission is $16.  From the museum: " D.C. residents are invited to visit Hive with complimentary admission from 9–11 am on their specific Ward Days with story time and mobile library book check-out provided by DC Public Library. Residency is verified by id’s zip code ." Also this week: Teen Night is Thursday, August 10 . Teens (ages 13-18) are invited to Hive --free of charge-- for music and programming at the museum from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Femme Fatale is a pop-up that is more than just a store or collection of retailers. It is a gathering space, gallery, showcase, and promoter of the arts. It's been a great addition to Atlas District and a refreshing and uplifting new presence on H. Today photographer Marie Emerson opens " After Hours ," an exhibition running through the weekend. The opening is tonight, June 29, from 7 PM - 10 PM. Then the show runs Friday 4 PM - 10 PM, Saturday 1 PM - 10 PM, and Sunday 11 AM - 6 PM.  From the organizers: “After Hours” is a photography exhibition, saluting the lives we lead after our 9-5 jobs conclude. The exhibition is composed of portraits of ten local Washington, D.C., women representing six different ethnicities.
