Femme Fatale DC Pop Up Starts This Week

A new pop up space is coming to H Street NE and it's launching this week. Femme Fatale DC is a local community building collective of and for women artists, creatives, other workers, and business owners. Here's their description from the website: 
FFDC is the District's womyn-only collective of local womyn creatives & small business owners. We highlight different entrepreneurs & creatives at each of our parties, with a giant networking party held every other month. Our goal is to foster and sustain our local community of womyn who support one another's creative & business endeavors. We build meaningful friendships & business relationships, and appreciate one another's gifts. Be real, genuine, & ALWAYS have fun, so drop the prejudice and competitiveness at the door & come ready to party!
The pop up looks to occupy two storefronts that make up 1371-1375 H Street NE that have been on the market for a while as retail locations and were last occupied by a Salvation Army Thrift store. There were (are?) also plans to eventually convert 1371-1375 into a 27 unit residential building. 

The actual pop up experience sounds *amazing.* From the organizers:
Come shop from the sweetest up and coming local, womyn owned businesses in DC, including fashion, art, ceramics, up cycle furniture, organic and infused beauty products, and so much more. Oh and we have a pop up photography studio you can rent by the hour, a beauty bar, a lounge area for you to use for free and get your work done, and a whole lot more. 
The pop up store launch party is this Thursday May 4, from 7 PM to 11 PM. The particular event is women only and you can RSVP here. There is a $10 cover. Post launch party, the pop up opens for everyone. It will run until July 30.

PGN Architects are the architects for the project. A. Morton Thomas and Associates are acting landscape architects and civil engineers. Bozzuto will ultimately mange the property. The "Valvaere" would be located at 1625 Benning Rd NE, consolidating nine parcels including what is now Trinidad Baptist Church and attached surface parking lot. Delta Towers Will Add New Housing & Retail

Rendering courtesy of KGD Architecture . Delta Towers --located at the Starburst intersection of Florida Ave, H Street, Bladensburg Rd, and Benning Road, NE-- is gearing up for a major expansion. Fences are already up around the perimeter of the property, presaging a significant transformation and addition of residential units to the H Street corridor.  There are 179 new units slated for "Fortitude at Delta Towers" as part of a nearly $1 billion bond issue via DCHFA (PDF) All units in Fortitude will be for seniors and all units will be affordable as each will leased at a maximum of 30% AMI. A Langston for Langston, But Not That One

Carver Langston has a new mural! The narrative features an abstract sort of geometric nature theme, switches to a sunglasses-decked woman representing Northeast DC, transitions to a male historical figure, then to a montage of pencils, an image of hands on a typewriter, then finally returning to the geometric nature theme to cap it all off. It's lovely, bold, colorful, and we deserve more murals like this in Carver Langston. But there's just one thing about this one... As you may know, on paper, Carver Langston is really two neighborhoods. Carver is the triangular shaped part of the neighborhood north of Maryland Ave NE, going up to the Arboretum. Langston is the part of the neighborhood south of Maryland, going down to Benning Road. Carver's namesake is a person most of us learned about in elementary school, George Washington Carver .
