V Street Concept from Philly Coming to H Street

V Street will reportedly open in the Apollo building at 6th and H NE.
In more great food news for H Street, the owners of Philadelphia's V Street & Vedge plan to open their first DC restaurant this  year. 

The Washington Post and other outlets are reporting that all-vegan "street food bar" V Street will open later this year in the Apollo apartment building at 600 H Street NE. V Street in Philadelphia serves dishes such as harissa glazed tofu, chilled kung pao noodles, and Korean fried tempeh tacos. The drink menu includes beers from around the U.S., wine, and a cocktail list. They could replicate this 1-to-1 in the DC location and I think they'd be successful. 

DC already has an all vegan Philadelphia-based restaurant in Hip City Veg. We certainly welcome another, especially to Northeast. Very, very cool news.  And  H Street is currently home to all-vegan Fare Well; and vegan-friendly restaurants &pizza, Bab Korean, Pow Pow, Sticky Rice, and others. If anyone else wants to join, come on down (cough, cough, Veggie Grill).

PGN Architects are the architects for the project. A. Morton Thomas and Associates are acting landscape architects and civil engineers. Bozzuto will ultimately mange the property. The "Valvaere" would be located at 1625 Benning Rd NE, consolidating nine parcels including what is now Trinidad Baptist Church and attached surface parking lot. The Valvaere will actually be comprised of two buildings; a nine story, 90 foot tall building facing Benning Road, and a 3 story, 38 foot tall building facing 16th St NE. Delta Towers Will Add New Housing & Retail

Rendering courtesy of KGD Architecture . Delta Towers --located at the Starburst intersection of Florida Ave, H Street, Bladensburg Rd, and Benning Road, NE-- is gearing up for a major expansion. Fences are already up around the perimeter of the property, presaging a significant transformation and addition of residential units to the H Street corridor.  There are 179 new units slated for "Fortitude at Delta Towers" as part of a nearly $1 billion bond issue via DCHFA (PDF) All units in Fortitude will be for seniors and all units will be affordable as each will leased at a maximum of 30% AMI. A Langston for Langston, But Not That One

Carver Langston has a new mural! The narrative features an abstract sort of geometric nature theme, switches to a sunglasses-decked woman representing Northeast DC, transitions to a male historical figure, then to a montage of pencils, an image of hands on a typewriter, then finally returning to the geometric nature theme to cap it all off. It's lovely, bold, colorful, and we deserve more murals like this in Carver Langston. But there's just one thing about this one... As you may know, on paper, Carver Langston is really two neighborhoods. Carver is the triangular shaped part of the neighborhood north of Maryland Ave NE, going up to the Arboretum. Langston is the part of the neighborhood south of Maryland, going down to Benning Road. Carver's namesake is a person most of us learned about in elementary school, George Washington Carver .
